On an annual basis, IGAE carries out ongoing financial control and public audit work on the State public sector, based on a risk-analysis approach.
The network of auditors consists of teams integrated into the central services of the General Intervention of the State Administration through the National Audit Office, the General Intervention of Social Security and the General Intervention of Defence, as well as the teams deployed in its decentralized structure in ministries, governing bodies and those public entities in which delegated intervention exists, as well as regional and territorial interventions spread throughout the national territory.
In some centres, agencies and bodies, this work involves reviewing the functioning of information and communication technology systems that support economic and financial information. To this end, there are specialized professionals working in the Information Technology Audit Service of the Office of Budgetary Information, who are integrated in a multidisciplinary way into the work of the audit teams, performing, depending on the objectives established, security audit services, data tests and/or compliance audits, among others.
